Third Migration

After the first appearance of Roma in Europe and the wave of emigration after slavery was abolished in Romania, the last migratory movement of Roma from Eastern to Western Europe took place in the second half of the 20th century. This “third migration” has to be considered in connection with external factors: war, political changes and resulting economic crises made many people leave their country of origin; in the case of Roma also massive racism and discrimination in all areas of everyday life
