The central terminology and attitudes, which were later used as reasons for killing “unworthy life” by the Na­zis, had been determined long before the latter’s ascent to power. The term “race”, for instance, has been used since the 17th century in order to cate­gorise people. Usually, this was done according to geographic criteria com­bined with external characteristics, like the skin colour or certain peculiarities.
