Religion and Beliefs

The long-term contact of the Roma with different non-Romani societies has led to the adoption of religious beliefs and practices dominant in the surrounding population. To give some examples, Roma are mostly Catholic in France, Spain, Italy and Poland; Protestant in Germany, Latvia and Estonia; Orthodox in Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Romania and Russia; and Muslim in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey. Roma of Muslim faith can be found in other countries of the Balkans too.
