Relations between
Roma and Gadje

It would be meaningless to talk about the Roma without underlining the great diversity between groups in different countries and regions, and even within countries. The Norwegian Roma who first arrived in the country in the 1860s and have been living there continually since around 1950, have a different economic adaptation and relation to Gadje (‘Non-Roma’) than, for instance, most of the Roma who live in Transylvanian villages. Each group of Roma adapts in its own unique way to Gadje society.
